Since hardside luggage often looks sleek and glossy, they’re especially suited to show off a designer’s artwork or photography print. Plus, it’s not necessary that you have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a good piece. Even budget brands are coming out with expensive looking luggage. You can buy individual bags, sets or pick and choose pieces from a collection.
We’ve selected a few patterned luggage sets and collections below that are rated highly by customers and are sure to make your fellow travelers take a second look on your next trip.
Samsonite Luggage NYC Cityscapes Spinners
There is just one print that Samsonite does on hardside luggage but it’s a good one, called NYC Cityscapes. There are 3 upright spinners for you to choose from – a 20″, 24″ and 28″, or you can buy the 3 piece set.
The bags are made of a durable combination of 30% ABS and 100% polycarbonate and very lightweight and easy to maneuver on the 4 spinner wheels. The graphic print can get mild scratch and scuff marks so common in hardside luggage but they’re easily removed with a magic marker or just by buffing with a cloth.
The telescopic handle extends and locks into place. The top and side carry handles also retract to lie flat when not in use. All pieces come with integrated TSA locks. The two larger suitcases have a zipper-release expandable feature for extra packing space if needed.
The upright suitcase interiors are fully lined, and feature a full sized U-shaped zippered opaque pocket on the inside of the lid. This gives you some privacy if you have to open the case in public to retrieve something. There tie down straps for complete organization and for keeping your things tidy in transit.
World Traveler Hardside Upright Spinner Luggage
Looking for high gloss sophisticated photographs on your hardside spinners? World Traveler, known for making inexpensive pieces, gives you a few choices depending on what your travel preferences are. They are made from 100% polycarbonate and can be expanded by 20% using the zipper system. The spinner cases open via zippers that are secured by in-built 3-digit TSA locks. The interior is fully lined and there’s a full sized opaque zippered divider that holds 2 zippered pockets and there are restraining straps to keep the other side tidy too.
The telescopic handle releases via a push button and retracts fully into the case when not in use. Four wide set spinner wheels enable smooth gliding and balance.
There are three sizes available individually or you can get them in a set – a 28″, 24″ and a 20″ carry on. These prints really stand out from the crowd.
Aimee Kestenberg Spinners
This may not be a familiar brand name in luggage but Aimee Kestenberg makes delightfully understated glossy print hardside spinners. There are two collections to choose from so far – Malibu or Ivy, and three sizes – 20″, 24″ and 28″. The collections can also be purchased as a set.
Both collections have an ABS exterior, an expansion feature, four dual spinner wheels, gold toned hardware, four feet on one side for standing them up on their sides and top and side carry handles.
The interior of the cases is really well designed for the organization maven. The inside of the top lid features a full zippered divider panel, the outside of which carries a half-sized zippered mesh pocket and two elastic top shoe pockets below that. On the other side there’s a zippered pocket along one long side, and instead of regular compression straps, there are two butterfly flaps that hold together with a snap buckle. These are even better for keeping your clothes in place. Each of the flaps holds a small zippered mesh pocket for storing small accessories.
National Geographic Luggage Explorer and Balboa
Adventure lovers will be pleased with the prints on offer from National Geographic Luggage. The Explorer and Balboa lines feature prints of a city landmarks collage or a polar bear on the former, and an image of King Tut, a leopard or a zebra on the latter. They come in 3 sizes – 1 carry on and 2 larger checked sizes.
The shell is 100% ABS with a PC film for scratch resistance and the interior is lined. The inside of the lid has a zippered divider that hold elasticated pockets and a zippered mesh pocket. The other side features tie-down straps and a zippered wet pocket.
There is a carry handle on the top and side for easy lifting and the telescopic handle is a push button style. It can be locked with the inbuilt TSA lock. There are 4 double spinner wheels for easy maneuvering.
Rockland 3 Piece Vision Polycarbonate Set and 2 Piece Departure Set
Rockland has always been female-friendly with their luggage collections by making some pretty or funky patterns on the shells. There are two of their hardshell lines that are very popular becasue they’re lightweight, budget-friendly and durable. The Vision line features 6 different colors and prints from funky to subdued. You get 3 pieces – a 20″, a 24″ and a 28″.
You can also find animal prints, like leopard or zebra, and like the Vision and Departure sets, they have the same features. The spinner wheels move 260 degrees for easy movement and the telescopic handle is ergonomically designed. The fully-lined interior features a lengthwise fabric zippered divider on the inside of the top lid. On this divider are shoe pockets and a mesh pocket across the width. The other side features restraining straps.
Traveler’s Choice Midway 2-Piece Hardside Expandable Luggage Set
If you’re looking for something wild and colorful, you have two very good options. The first is the Midway line from Traveler’s Choice. These expandable spinners have a two-toned telescopic handle, large self mending zippers and an impact resistant polycarbonate shell.
The lined interior features an inner lid U-shaped zippered divider that has a straight zippered pocket across its length. The other side has another small zippered pocket across one long side and compression straps to keep your clothes in place.
Heys USA Britto Spinners
The second choice of hardshell luggage in colorful arty patterns is any piece from the America line from Heys USA. These polycarbonate composite spinners have shells that flex on impact to lessen the chance of cracking. The 360 degree spinner wheels turn smoothly and all the pieces have four feet on one side so you can set the spinners down horizontally if needed.
Be aware that not all models in this line come with the same features. While most have in-built TSA zipper locks, some like the Britto pieces don’t, and while many of the models have a 20% expansion feature via zipper release, some do not. The organizational features on the interior vary a little as well but all have a divider panel that secures via two corner snap buckles to separate the interior space. The deeper side of the space features criss-cross restraining straps.
