Genius Pack is a brand known for travel products that help you be super organized while traveling. The products are for anyone that wants a neat and tidy bag where there’s a place for everything and everything has a place. The Genius Pack G3 22″ Carry On Spinner is arguably the most useful of their line of products and we’ll tell you why.

With carry on sizes shrinking, it’s getting harder to fly without checking in any luggage. That’s why a carry on bag that’s designed to be roomy and has a clever organizational design can be extremely popular. The new G3 22″ Carry On aims to do that but it doesn’t come cheap and that’s probably because of the seemingly infinite number of pockets built into it. We’ll go into detail about its design and construction so you can see if it’s something that fits your luggage needs.

Features of the Genius Pack G3 22″ Carry On Spinner

  • Genius pack Carry On InteriorThe bag is made of nylon that is quite strong and light even though it comes with a variety of pockets and compartments. It measures 22 x 14 x 9 inches, weighs 7.8 lbs and has a capacity of 44 L. The dimensions include the wheels and handle.
  •

  • The 360 degree swiveliing spinner wheels are high quality and so is the aluminum telescopic handle. There is a a neoprene grab handle on the top and one on the side of the bag. A hard integrated bottom handle makes lifting the bag into an overhead bin easy.
  •

  • The main compartment can be expanded by an additional 2″ just by the pull of a zipper.
  •

  • Labeled special pockets and a packing checklistThe inside lid of the suitcase comes with several zippered pockets of various sizes. Each one is labeled so it’s easy for you to pack without too much thinking, and when you’re unpacking or just need to find something specific, you’ll know exactly where you put it. There’s a pocket for every kind of accessory – a portable speaker, chargers, socks, undergarments and your hairstyling tools or toiletry bag. Genius pack sells a portable speaker that fits into the top pocket here but you can use your own and store it in there if it fits. Also stitched lower down is a comprehensive packing checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything. If this list isn’t particularly suited to you, try using a packing app instead.
  •

  • Back access laundry compartmentOn the other side of the lid, the main compartment comes with the usual compression straps to keep your clothes in place. However, there is an additional feature here to help you organize your clothes and pack a lot more than what would normally be possible in a 22″ carry on. There is a laundry bag designed with compression technology to let you keep your dirty clothes separate and have them take up very little space in the bag. It is accessed through an external zipper on one side and is fully detachable so you can take the whole bag to the laundry.

Laundry sack can be rolled up and compressedThe way it works is that you pack your laundry into the laundry sack through the external zipper opening. That way, soiled or damp clothes never come in contact with clean clothes. You zip it closed and then from the inside of the carry on you tightly roll the sack into a bundle towards the inside long spine of the bag where you secure the roll with two integrated straps. While rolling, all the excess air is squeezed out through an air valve that’s built into the laundry sack. The result leaves you with a lot of free space for the rest of your stuff, including souvenirs you bought during your trip!

When you are able to do laundry, you just remove the entire sack full of dirty clothes. On the way to your destination or when you don’t have dirty clothes, the laundry sack can be used for underwear and anything else that you don’t mind compressing.

  •

  • Jacket bungee cord wrapOn the exterior, there’s a stretchable strap with a hanger hook on its end that goes from behind the case, wraps around the top and secures to the front. This strap is meant for carrying a jacket or raincoat without you needing to stuff it inside.
  •

  • Magazine compartment and bungee cord for a jacketBelow where the jacket strap starts at the back is a full length zippered pocket that’s perfect for storing a magazine.
  •

  • Add-a-bag strapThere’s a metal D-ring hook right on top of the bag under the grab handle that you use to attach the included Add-a-Bag strap. This strap allows you to attach a laptop bag or tote to the carry on for easy transportation. The Genius pack High Altitude Flight Bag would an ideal companion bag to carry this way.

  • Phone charging compartment with optional battery packOn the front exterior are two zipped pockets. The smaller one on top is u-shaped and has a sideways elastic top mesh pocket to hold a portable battery charger pack. You can buy the one from Genius Pack or use your own. •

  • Travel umbrella compartment for the optional umbrellaOn one corner on the top of the suitcase is a small zipped pocket meant for storing a travel umbrella vertically. The umbrella from Genius Pack fits perfectly but you could also use your own.
  •

  • Water bottle pocketOn one side of the bag is a gusseted mesh water bottle holder that’s zipped closed when empty. Above that is a hidden ID tag slip pocket.
  •

    Pros

  • The jacket strap is very useful for when you board a flight in cold weather and land in a place that’s hot. No need to bother about what to do with your jacket if you remove it. So is the umbrella pocket.
  •

  • The labeling of all the pockets ensures you know what each pocket holds so you don’t have to unzip each one to find out when you forget.
  •

  • The laundry bag design really does create a lot of packing space for your other clothes that need to be as wrinkle-free as possible.
  •

    Cons

  • Quite pricey for what it is and won’t last as long as, say, a Briggs & Riley.
  •

  • There is no integrated lock. You will need your own TSA-approved luggage padlock to secure the bag.
  •

  • The pockets on the inside of the lid force you to pack with items that fit them. Anything bigger than what they’re designed for and you can actually lose some packing space.
